I don't know if you heard, but urbanists are developer shills. At least that's the common conception. In reality, many of us quite critical of certain developers and projects, while recognizing that absolute opposition to developers would get us nowhere. If developers are evil, they're a necessary evil—at least until we rise up, seize the modes of production, and turn Seattle into only to a full-blown socialist metropolis in which the government leads a huge construction boom to affordably house everybody.

No sign of the revolution yet, though.

May 2020 Builders Bulletin: Unemployment Rises, Housing Indicators Still Not Reflecting COVID’s Disruption

The near-record-low 2.6% unemployment rate for Seattle/Bellevue/Everett seen in February rose to 5.5% in March, according to the latest monthly employment report, which shows the first wave of job losses from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Employment Security Department notes the impacts on jobs are more likely to be evident in the April report. Meanwhile, housing indicators from the latest Builders Bulletin do not yet reflect the impact of coronavirus on real estate and new home construction. The report shows year-over-year median home price increases in March and rising permits in February.

The Builder's Bulletin is intended to provide a convenient way to track housing in our market and includes information from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, State of the Cities Data Systems, Office of Financial Management, and the Washington State Employment Security Department.

Professional Women in Building Week 2018

Join me in celebrating Professional Women in Building Week. The MBAKS Professional Women in Building Council has many members who have taken risks and challenged the status quo to become leaders.

What does it take to succeed? Motivation!

Two of our members have made headway in the residential building industry and worked hard to overcome obstacles and pave the way for others to follow. Our council is honored to recognize these leaders who have motivated and mentored many of our members.

Darylene Dennon is the CEO and president of Solid Energy Inc. She owns a successful general contracting company specializing in painting and carpentry. Dennon is also the incoming National Professional Women in Building chair.

Juli Bacon is the founder and president of JB Consulting Systems. With more than two decades of human resource and business experience, she has developed both a strategic and practical approach to HR within the residential building industry. Bacon is also the immediate past National Professional Women in Building chair.
