The MBA held its annual Hill Day in Olympia last Wednesday, February 8, providing an opportunity for members to advocate for our top-priority housing issues. Twenty-five members and Government Affairs staff met with over 30 King and Snohomish county-based legislators throughout the day.

Members discussed our core issues with senators and representatives, including the need to restore vested development rights, improve the process for measuring buildable land supply, find a path forward for permit-exempt wells in the wake of the Supreme Court's Hirst decision, and support workforce development.

MBA members also shared with legislators our new housing attainability piece, describing steps needed to bring housing supply more in line with our region's strong demand.

During the lunch break, Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon (34th District) met with the MBA to provide a legislative update. Fitzgibbon is sponsoring a bill, HB 1862, backed by the MBA, that would allow final subdivision plat approvals to be conducted administratively.

Help a service organization in your community!

MBAKS is currently accepting applications for our 15th Anniversary of Painting a Better Tomorrow.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to help a service organization in your community get their environment spruced up with a new coat of paint! We will be accepting applications for this year's event until July 31.

We're especially excited for this year's event, taking place on November 18 at a location to be determined, as 2017 marks 15 years of helping our community members brighten their days (and walls)! We encourage all service organizations in King and Snohomish counties to apply. We are aware that the aesthetic improvements of painting are also the easiest costs to cut from the annual budget in order to provide funding for crucial service needs to the community. To be considered, the organization must have a space that's in need of upkeep. That's it! Oh, and they also have to apply. We'll do the rest.

We ask you to reach out to organizations in your community and get an application in their hands. And make sure they get their application in by July 31!

Just think—by Thanksgiving, one local organization will be sitting in a beautiful, freshly painted space with one more item crossed off their 2018 budget.

King and Snohomish County Remodelers Win REX/T-REX Awards

MBAKS Event Celebrates Remodeling Excellence

BELLEVUE, Wash.—May 4, 2019—The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS) hosted their Remodeling/Trades Remodeling Excellence (REX/T-REX) Awards at the Seattle Design Center. 

Dozens of local remodeling companies attended the dinner event to enjoy an evening dedicated to celebrating gorgeous and innovative remodeling projects.

REX/T-REX entries were judged on the following categories:

1. Aesthetics—How is the remodel visually appealing?
2. Special or unique design solutions—How was the space planned and was livability considered?
3. Quality workmanship—What are the special features of the project and is there attention to detail?
4. Use of appropriate building material—Does the remodel complement existing structure and design?
5. Budgetary consideration—How did the project keep within the budget and still deliver client expectations?
6. Challenges and obstacles—Were there any unexpected obstacles that called for adjustments?
