MBAKS Promotes Jerry Hall to Serve as Executive Director

“For me, the importance of the association’s purpose is heartfelt and personal,” said Jerry Hall, Executive Director of MBAKS. “We are fortunate to live in a region that has enjoyed extraordinary economic success over the last few decades, yet, because the supply of housing did not keep pace with our growth, the cost of housing has reached unattainable levels for too many.”

Hall holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Whitman College and a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. With decades of business leadership experience, he joined MBAKS in August of 2018, serving as its Chief Operating Officer. Shortly thereafter, he began serving as its Chief Financial Officer, and most recently as the organization’s Interim Executive Director.

“We are at a tipping point in our region and access to housing is becoming increasingly difficult” stated Hall. “I’m honored to be given the opportunity to lead the vital work MBAKS does in making home ownership possible for generations to come.”

Bellevue, Wash—June 22, 2016—The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and Regence BlueShield will volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County's "La Fortuna" townhome community in Renton, a 3-Star Built Green® property. Volunteers will focus on unmasking floors, installing appliances, painting, and cleaning in preparation for the homeowner dedication on July 16, 2016. At that time, eight low-income families will receive the keys to their new homes and a better future.

La Fortuna residents will include U.S. military veterans, Americans who were once refugees from war-torn countries, and others who came to our region in search of a better life for their families. The future homeowners have worked together as friends and neighbors to help build and create this community.

Habitat for Humanity's vision of creating "a world where everyone has a decent place to live" is shared by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and Regence BlueShield. This vision, and the idea that affordable housing should be accessible to all families—including low-income, middle class, and those struggling with homelessness—has led Regence and the MBA to form ongoing partnerships with this organization.

• 9:00 a.m.: Safety orientation, description of work assignments.

In December 2016, the Washington state Supreme Court struck a blow to vesting rights when it ruled that newly adopted stormwater regulations do not vest. The Court let stand a window for certain projects to remain vested. The new stormwater regulations will apply to all applications submitted after July 1, 2015 and projects approved prior to July 1, 2015 which have not started construction by June 30, 2020.

The case, Snohomish County, et al. v. Pollution Control Hearings Board, will severely impact applications that have been submitted to a jurisdiction but are not yet approved. The opinion eliminates vesting for environmental regulations mandated by the state, including stormwater.

An editorial by MBA President Mike Walsh was recently published in The Herald discussing the case and explaining why vesting is so important to the homebuilding industry.

While there is no ability for local government to overcome the decision with local legislation, King and Snohomish counties are currently petitioning the Court to reconsider and clarify some of the opinion.

Further, there is a proposal before the Washington State Legislature, Senate Bill 5212, that would restore vesting rights.
