The housing and economic indicators featured in this month’s Builders Bulletin reflect the state of the market just prior to the start of the COVID-19 crisis in the Puget Sound region. It shows housing inventories still very low in our two counties, with 1.17 months’ supply in King County and 0.93 months’ supply in Snohomish County. Data from the Northwest Multiple Listing Services also show median home prices holding steady in February—$615,000 in King County and $494,263 in Snohomish County. The February unemployment rate was a near record-low 2.6% for Seattle/Bellevue/Everett and statewide construction employment was 225,200.

10-Point Action Plan to Fight the Housing Affordability Crisis in the Puget Sound Region to be Announced at 2017 Housing Summit

Free event on Tuesday, October 17, to focus on housing attainability solutions

Bellevue, Wash—October 4, 2017—The Puget Sound area's housing market is in crisis. The demand for housing in our region continues to significantly outpace residential housing supply, making it difficult to purchase reasonably priced homes near job centers. In response, the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS) has identified a 10-point action plan to help provide attainable housing for our growing population.

"Our region's housing attainability crisis is a big problem that demands bold solutions," said Nick Harper, MBAKS senior director of strategy and policy. "We need to come together to implement a legislative agenda that helps ensure housing opportunities for everyone."

In November 2023, real estate trends in the Pacific Northwest revealed shifts in median home prices. According to the latest data, King County experienced a substantial 7% surge in the median price of single-family homes, rising from $827,000 in the previous year to a current value of $885,500. Meanwhile, Snohomish County witnessed a 4% increase in single-family home prices, elevating the median from $700,000 to $725,000. The overall median price, with both single-family homes and condos, stood at $799,925 in King County and $703,635 in Snohomish County. This upward price trajectory can be attributed to the dwindling housing inventory, underscoring the increased demand for homes in the area.
