Sen. Palumbo, Matthew Gardner to Speak at Housing Solutions Breakfast

There is growing momentum in Olympia for housing reform in the upcoming 2019 legislative session. Come hear a wide range of views from the Seattle area’s top housing experts as we work to increase housing supply and address our housing affordability crisis. Featuring Sen. Palumbo and chief economist for Windemere Real Estate, Matthew Gardner, the breakfast will include researchers, policy makers, and business professionals. This month's Builders Bulletin features a new data point, the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI). This is a national and regional indicator that tracks builder perception of current single-family home sales and expectations. It has decreased every month in 2022, reflecting a general bearish outlook towards the housing market amid rising construction costs and high interest rates.

In September 2024, Washington's unemployment rate stood at 4.8%, with the Seattle/Bellevue/Everett area slightly lower at 4.4%. Between September 2023 and September 2024, construction employment in the state saw a boost, adding 4,700 jobs, bringing the total to 236,600.
