The latest Builders Bulletin shows year-to-date permit activity through April fell 18% for single-family homes and 37% for multifamily homes in King County compared to the same period last year. Single-family permits were up 6% and multifamily permits up 60% in Snohomish County. Pierce County saw a 5% drop in multifamily permits and a 21% increase in single-family permits. Meanwhile, the May jobs report shows construction employment increased by 30,000 between April and May, reflecting a gain from the previous month’s significant job losses due to the construction shutdown.

MBAKS Promotes Jerry Hall to Serve as Executive Director

“For me, the importance of the association’s purpose is heartfelt and personal,” said Jerry Hall, Executive Director of MBAKS. “We are fortunate to live in a region that has enjoyed extraordinary economic success over the last few decades, yet, because the supply of housing did not keep pace with our growth, the cost of housing has reached unattainable levels for too many.”

Hall holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Whitman College and a Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. With decades of business leadership experience, he joined MBAKS in August of 2018, serving as its Chief Operating Officer. Shortly thereafter, he began serving as its Chief Financial Officer, and most recently as the organization’s Interim Executive Director.

“We are at a tipping point in our region and access to housing is becoming increasingly difficult” stated Hall. “I’m honored to be given the opportunity to lead the vital work MBAKS does in making home ownership possible for generations to come.”

It’s not hard to see the good in this world—you just have to know where to look.

Take the corner of Northeast 140th Place and 100th Avenue Northeast in Kirkland, for example, where Angela Maccarrone can now freely and safely get in and out of her home thanks to a new wheelchair access ramp built free of charge by builder company Lochwood-Lozier Custom Homes.

The ramp was donated as part of an annual event called Rampathon, during which volunteers from the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish counties donate their time and skills to build ramps for Puget Sound residents in need.
